Oil lamp filler

This bronze oil lamp filler dates to the Late Roman or Byzantine period, roughly the 4th to 7th centuries AD.

It was primarily used to refill larger oil lamps, including suspended chandeliers, though some examples also served as small standalone lamps. The vessel typically features a rounded bowl, an elongated shaped spout designed for controlled pouring, and a decorative handle that may take the form of an animal or a geometric motif.

Cast in bronze, these objects often develop a natural patina over centuries of oxidation, producing distinctive green or brown surface tones.
