Opium scale

An ancient Burmese bronze opium scale shaped like a mythological animal, probably a Chinthe or similar zoomorphic animal. These scales were used in Burma from the 16th to the 20th centuries to measure opium and other valuable goods. They come in a variety of animal and bird shapes, set on a circular base. These items are now popular collectors' items due to their history and cultural significance
