The Sorban abacus is a Japanese version of a similar Chinese abacus. The abacus is made of hard plastic, the frame is dark brown, the beads are light brown, on each pole there are 5 beads. The top bead is separated from the rest by a metal partition.

The numerical value of the top bead is 5,  all the four others are valued 1. The right column represents units followed by tens and so on. The participating beads should be attached to the partition. The abacus was used by the Japanese childrens from the second grade.
